The series Embroidered Borders weaves back and forth between the beauty of Hungarian embroidery and the hideousness of Hitler’s teeth post-mortem, the suppleness of yarn and the rigidity of barbed wire. Knitting needles embody the potential for creation and the possibility of violence. Plaid mixes with lace. Within the embroidery patterns, other replications emerge: repeatedly, over time, cultural patrimony defends xenophobia. The concertina wire border is a construction-- made of yarn.
